  • Like other immigration, Indian immigration occurs becasue of the United States' occupation oppurtunities
  • A lot of the Indian immigrants to the U.S. came from a region called Punjab, and since they all came from a concentrated area their communities in the U.S. became tightly knit. Often they came in small groups of neighbors and cousins
  • From 1899 to 1902 Famine struck India causing more surges of immigration towards the U.S.
  • When Indians came to the U.S. they faced the challenge of taking jobs that no one else would because they had most experience with farming. They faced prejudice by the Americans as well. Sometimes they were blamed for the violence within the countries.
  • Many people looked down upon the Indians as inferior. They were teased because of their skin color and they were called mean names.
